mandrake 1

After many years together spent on growing Bio-Magical plants, Helga and Helmut van der Doom have finally created first-world singing Mandrake. Unfortunately this event has become the beginning of a marital misunderstanding: Mandrake 1, a new point and click adventure by Marek Frankowski and Piotr Taczala.

  4. Some hints on less obvious things:

    You need 4 planks before you can use any of them. You need 2 peppers.

    The broken wand is used on the broken door.

    Objects you can pick up (in no particular order) include a screwdriver, poison spray, plunger, toilet paper, war axe, axe blade, axe handle, stale bread, bone, broken wand, rope, two pieces of paper with codes on them (both of these are rewards for solving puzzles). The three codes change with each game.

  5. Yay! Made it through (assuming the goal is to free the chained dragon)- but I'm not sure what the toilet paper was for; never used it...

    Anyway, for those that want a walkthrough...

    1st Floor -- From the dresser with the lab equipment, get the broken wand and the cup in a drawer. Bone in the windowsill overlooking the dragon. There is a screwdriver on the chair. On the nightstand with the teeth is a vial of poison spray (works well on plants...)

    2nd floor - get 4 planks (3 on the ground; gotta search for the 4th...) - look through the telescope to see a bird with a scroll - he needs to be lured to his perch with some bread.

    Ground floor - plunger and T.P. from the privy.

    Basement - spool of rope (works w/ the plunger in the crossbow upstairs); the planks let you cross to the other tower. the skeleton there needs an armbone; then he'll offer you a drink. Use the cup; note the colors of the gems when there is a color flash.

    Back upstairs; use the wand on the door. The cup should give you a clue on pushing the buttons on the machine to get a scroll (look for colors when it punches you if you enter them wrong) - that scroll is the code to the door by the skeleton to the greenhouse. Grab a ladder, and kill plants to get peppers; feed peppers to dragon to burn the axe out of the stump and get the blade.

    The ladder gets you to the bird perch; bait it; then you can lure the bird and shoot it from upstairs to get the 2nd scroll, which falls back on the perch. (Code to unlocking the axe in the case.) Note the location of the button to open it; might need to think about which way is up on the plan...

    Use the axe on the chain by the dragon. You'll have to do it twice, after breaking the axe and reassembling a better one. You're done!
