fixation
Fixation, a puzzle platformer about people and their habits by Eli Piilonen.
As a precursor to The Company of Myself, I found this a little confusing. It certainly didn't answer why he killed her, other than that his "medication" was out of balance. I'm going to pretend that he killed her because she was finally happy - in his mind, the perfect time to move on (and that he was a true split-personality). I'm a little disappointed that the game seems to frown on medication as a helpful way to treat mental illness as well, but I may just being over-sensitive and perhaps what they were trying to say was that self-medication is bad, not sure. Anyway, thanks for sharing it. It was an interesting game to play. :)
Meh. Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of boring dialogue, wonky controls, and it crashed on me about a dozen screens/rooms in. Taking a moment to think about it, I found that I didn't care. :)
I don't recommend it. If you do play, then to answer a VERY common question: To remove the blocks, blow smoke at the lanterns on the wall. Yeah, it doesn't make much sense, I know.
Beautiful. All who didn't like it, try playing The Company of Myself through and then Fixation. Focus especially on the story and dialogue, not the puzzles (which were pretty challenging).
OKay, to all the stupid people who frown upon this game, all I can say is that you missed out! It does NOT encourage smoking And the dialogue was the game maker's idea of trying something new
it really saddens me that most people on this forum didnt like this game, it's a really great story that fits with 'the company of myself' in a really great way. other than that the smoke effects are amazing and actually react to kathryn walking through them, and the game play and puzzles are amazing. if you dont like the dialogue you can skip it all. Great game.
I tried playing this a while back when I first started playing platform games, and I had to give up because it was too difficult. But after playing The Company of Myself recently, I gave Fixation another shot. This game is beautiful, fascinating, and a fun challenge. It took me an embarrassing amount of time to play, but it was worth it! One of my favorite platform puzzles I've played, because of the narrative.
This was one of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching platformers I've ever played in my life. From the tear-jerking story and music/score that's honestly good enough to be in a film to the incredible gameplay and dialogue, this was absolutely perfect. Extremely deep and sad ending that left me staring blankly at the loading screen when it was finished-- something I hadn't experienced since Bioshock Infinite. Truly outstanding. 10/10. Nice pick, Bart.
first
ReplyDeleteWhy won't the game load? Is there another link to it?
ReplyDeleteWAAAAAAAY to much dialogue. You spend more time reading the crap than you do actually playing. Give this one an F!

Can anyone help me pass the rotating laser turrets?
ReplyDeleteI really hate all of the smoking...
ReplyDeleteI didn't finish this game; it's too frustrating.
Beautiful.

Or you could play them in the 'real' order for a different outlook. (Fixation first then tCoM)
ReplyDeleteErm... How do you even jump up to the ledge in the second room? After jumping past the refrigerator, the next platform is too high... :S
ReplyDeleteAh, double-jump. Did they explain that? It's not something I usually take for granted.

great game but challenging at times! thanks bart!
ReplyDeleteNot being a smoker myself, I think it was very inventive to use cigarette as your loading screen.
