Here it is, my brand new game: off to work we go. The game is perhaps a little different from my previous games, so here's a little context:
This short game was developed for the No Future Contest, a 'no future' game development contest with technical constraints and with a compulsory theme 'au travail/work it'.
The technical constraint I chose was to not have a single word or letter in the game.
The 15 best games created for contest will be displayed on arcade cabinets during September and October in Paris in Visages du Monde.
That being said, I hope you enjoy off to work we go! Use the cursor keys to move and use the mouse to look around. You will need the Unity webplayer if you haven't installed it.
You find a work facility on a lonely island. But what happens next, is it a strange dream or corporate reality...
WOW! Beautiful game. Unity looks like the wave of the future. This was like playing something on a console with those graphics. Another home run Bart!!!
ReplyDeletefirst?...
ReplyDeleteWow, the end, it is ... it is ... Thanks for another great game Bart!
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha...
ReplyDeleteThird!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice one.
ReplyDeleteInteresting little game Bart.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great game. I hope it wins. Bart, can you tell us the results when they come out?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great game. I hope it wins. Bart, can you tell us the results when they come out?
ReplyDeleteOf course I will post the competition results on the blog :) Btw you can find all the participating games here: http://retronofuture.fr/
ReplyDeleteThe deadline to submit a game for the competition is tonight at midnight.
Haha! Fantastic! I love the concept. And thanks for the link to all of the other games as well
ReplyDeleteVery clever. I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bart!
Cool game! Bart, you did a wonderfull job. I haven't finished the game yet, but I hope you'll win the contest.
ReplyDeleteWell that was really different in a good way also the graphics and gameplay were truly nice. But what about the end! i started jumping and searching for an exit before the punch hits me lol...Thanks for the game Bart and best of luck
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about these 3-d Unity games, but I get so nauseated when I play them. The same thing happened with the 14 Locks game. I managed to solve a few of the puzzles, but I had to quit. Nice concept...but I can't handle the vertigo. =(
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange game! It's a bit shorter than the rest of them, but it was quite interesting. I liked the music in it. Is the metaphor in the game supposed to represent the cyclical nature of today's seemingly robotically manufactured workplace?
ReplyDeleteThat's really sad. ... :/
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that I will never know how good this game might or might not be, due to your choice of Unity to develop it. Until Unity has a version for Linux, any games requiring Unity will be inaccessible to those of us not running Windows. Please reconsider your decision to use Unity for your programs, at least until Unity is available for all platforms.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't play it. Took up to much load on my CPU and locked it up. Had to unplug to reboot.
ReplyDeleteNice concept, Bart! Thanks for sharing your latest game with us. :)
ReplyDeleteThis game makes me dizzy. I don't think I'll be able to finish it.
ReplyDeleteNice game! Slick and smooth
ReplyDeletegreat game, but the ending was a surprise. right when its... finishing, it gets a little jumpy.
ReplyDeleteconsider making an alt ending maybe?
(|w|)
Really needs an invert mouse option! It's almost unplayable for people used to the 'other' way.
ReplyDeleteFor those with vertigo: for me, it's less disorienting if I keep the mouse near the center of the screen. When it gets too far off, I flip to another app, then flip back and click in the middle of the screen, which re-centers the mouse. [I use Google Chrome, if that makes a difference.]
ReplyDeleteCan you allow us to adjust the mouse sensitivity?
ReplyDeleteIt is way to sensitive on my computer.
This was fun!
ReplyDeleteI probably wouldnt replay it like your other games, but the level is beautiful. Is it a metaphor for designing games?
ReplyDeleteI love the music!!!!
ReplyDeleteno unity web player for ubuntu :(
ReplyDeleteI say: cool and neat! :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely looks interesting, but I'm so confused as how to proceed after moving the scenery around with the cursor and the arrow keys. *sigh
ReplyDeleteBrilliant.
ReplyDeleteyay!!!!!!!!!! its here! its here! Its finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteenable mute, please!!!
ReplyDeletehow do u PLAY the other games from the link u gave us bart?
ReplyDeleteDo not like. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteMusic is great! Made me think of a Tarantino movie. In that regard, I kept wanting more from the game.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, it was fun and looked great!
All the best to you in the contest.
did anybody else realize that all of the other workers experienced the same ending? I was wondering where all of those extra briefcases came from... It also explains those things you see on the island.
ReplyDeletegreat job bart!
ReplyDeletegreat job bart!
ReplyDeleteNice game! (Although I really don't like Unity games. :()
ReplyDeleteI feel the same feeling,Lizzie...
ReplyDelete"I don't know what it is about these 3-d Unity games, but I get so nauseated when I play them. The same thing happened with the 14 Locks game. I managed to solve a few of the puzzles, but I had to quit. Nice concept...but I can't handle the vertigo. =( "
what a shame cuz just love your games Bart!
I really hope that your next one is another Factory Balls, Farafalla, or Me and the Key game.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Bart. Love the music too, it also seems to be a little different from your usual stuff.
ReplyDeleteUnity ... So I can't try it.
ReplyDeletePoo
This is a very depressing game.
ReplyDeleteI wasnt able to play this. I do have the Unity player and enjoyed the seven locks game (or whatever it was). But this one froze my computer totally - twice. Won't try a third time. Bummer, really...
ReplyDeletewell....that was an interesting ending.... soooo that's why theres so many of things scattered around on the island and why there were so many briefcases... interesting one bart. I liked it.
ReplyDeleteReally loved it Bart! It's like being the actor in a short movie.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could play it. But it says "The content was stopped because a fatal content error has been detected" all the time. Have the last version of Unity Webplayer installed btw.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the feedback and compliments!
ReplyDeleteTo all the Linux users: I know it's a shame that Unity is not releasing a Linux webplayer, but Unity is really the only tool that allows me to make a game like this one.
I suppose I could release a stand alone version of the game for Linux, but I'm not familiar with Linux at all and how I should package the standalone file and data files. (if anyone is familiar with this, you can always drop me an email)
To Anonymous with the fatal webplayer error: please make sure you only have a webplayer open in one tab. I know there are certain browser issues when there are Unity webplayers active in multiple tabs.
Congrats on another great game Bart! It was different from your other games, but still, it has that typical bontegames mark
ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't play this game. Im one of those people who are afraid to use too many different plugins to play games. if the main ones wont play them it seems fishy to me. (not that I think your fishy its just a phobia thing.)
ReplyDeleteNot bad Bart! That ending was cool & creepy all at the same time...nice job!
ReplyDeleteMy sort of game, although I wasn't sure if I'd won or lost? So I played it through again. Love the music - it was a shame it stops when you go inside!
ReplyDeleteOnce again Unity won't load more than 2/3 of the game before crashing. After several games, each wasting more than a day failing, I am now resigned to never use Unity.
ReplyDeleteUnity makes me a little woozy. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a great game but when I opened the door to get into the building, it stopped and a notice came up from unity saying that "fatal content has been detected". I tried reloading the page but it happened again!
ReplyDeleteYou need to make more "art" games. You're good at it.
ReplyDeleteY'know, Bart, I have played all your games before this one, and *none* have scared me (obviously) Until this one. Near the ending was frightening, and the 1st person POV made it all the more as I tried to escape the hole. Of course, I couldn't, and when the screen turned black, I actually despaired! The ending was completely strange, though... was that me that came out of the factory? Freaky...
ReplyDeleteYes! Fine one - I been boiled. thx

ReplyDeleteunix player did get a little annoying, but in the end i was able to play the game fluently. and it was sooo CREEPY!!! and OMG DAT ENDING!! 0.O its a great game, if i had to change anything, i would make the inside of the castle a little less dull maybe? (or maybe the dullness is what made the castle creepier)
ReplyDeletegreat game ;)
i think i get the concept. you see all your worker friends flat lying about, you find your briefcase, and enter the factory, nobodys around, you work, and do your work, in the end they kill you (by squashing you) and throw you out. in otherwords you work for people and in the ennd they kick you out and treat you as dirt. something like that???
ReplyDeleteI got squished, lol
ReplyDeleteGreat game!
ReplyDelete!#$%^@$%&^#@%&^@#$%^(*$%#%^$% UNITY WEB PLAYER!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell if I won or lost... I got squished by this thing then thrown out. Or is there a way to win?
ReplyDeleteI just get an error message about screen resolution, which crashes my whole system. How many pixels does this game require??
ReplyDeleteI keep entering the factory - then it crashes. help?
ReplyDeleteso, at the end... its very interesting how the machine turns you into a space invader, I thought it weird and sad. nice game
ReplyDeleteVery creative and unique!
ReplyDeleteFreaky ending. So all those things lying about were coworkers...
ReplyDeletescary and sad at the end and the mouse gave me problems.
ReplyDeleteSO MUCH FUN!!
Cool game! (Also a bit scary...) But I have a feeling it's trying to tell me something. But still, those space invaders are AWESOME!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi. I really like this game, except for the ending, its just a tad freaky for me. It's kinda cool as well, though, sooo... I guess I just have never liked dying in games like this, when the whole point is get to the end then die, anyway.
