rock, paper, scissors
Chaotic Iak made an interesting puzzlescript puzzler based on rock, paper, scissors and their interactions.
Note that this is still a work in progress. While the mechanics are good enough, there might still be additional levels to come (or earlier levels removed for a better version of them), and they might appear anywhere (not necessarily at the back).
Very nice puzscript game. Thanks, chaotic_iak. Also appreciate the level #'s. I left the red gems for now. Perhaps I'll go back and try for them when my brain cools off. And noticed the post about the extra Snakeoban levels. Will have to look into those, too. Constructive criticism-wise, I'd mention that both the blue and red gems seem a bit superfluous, or at least avoidable. I wonder if they could be worked into the game play more, or possibly allow access to bonus levels or other.
About level 7: For me the key was to remember that paper eliminates rock. (And helps open a path sometimes.) As for my criticism earlier, I forgot the blue gems must be cleared to exit the level. Still, they were perhaps a little too easy to get.
Yes, blue gems must be collected to exit the level. They are intentionally rather easy to get; I try to make the levels not to be too difficult (if you only go for the goal). Besides, blue gems have interesting properties as well that I invite you to figure out...
Access to bonus levels is impossible because PuzzleScript doesn't store any state between levels. I suppose trying to collect the red gem together with reaching the goal in each level is "bonus" already, though.
Level 12 is indeed a true killer, especially with the red gem. If you're only going for the goal, note that you can push the paper around (since you don't need the rock inside). If you're going for the red gem... I don't want to spoil anything just yet!
I'm sure it's not but level 12 (with the red gem) seems impossible. SPOILERS! There doesn't seem to be an alternative to starting by taking off the top right and top middle of the paper square to release the rock inside (there are other ways of doing it but they immediately make the remainder of the paper impossible to move in necessary ways). However, that leaves a reverse J shape of paper. And the only way (I can think of) to use the paper to eliminate the rock in front of the exit and then remove it is if 5 pieces of paper remain: 3 vertical, 1 to their bottom-left, and 1 to their top right (a reverse blocky 2, or if you're drawing it, right1-up3-right1). But the reverse J makes that impossible! Alternatively, we could do with fewer pieces of paper to get to the exit if we could get some scissors in the rightmost position at the level of the exit (we could do without the top right piece of paper for lifting, instead ramming the bottom two pieces of paper into the scissors and freeing up the path to the exit that way). But the necessary initial move also makes that impossible! (because it requires moving the scissors to the left and there's no way to move them back.) What am I missing??? hint???
Thanks for the hint! It's funny, after I read it, it dawned on me what to do and I thought "of course! it's so obvious! how could i have missed it!" and then I tried out my idea and it didn't work! I'm still trying. SPOILER! What I'm trying in particular is somehow moving the scissors to the right with the blue gem (so that I can finish in the last way described in my earlier post). But it's starting to seem impossible.
oh unbelievable -- i did it! very hard. very fun. thank you! (one thing to add if it's easy: the ability to go directly to any level, and perhaps also a display of which levels you've completed and gotten which gems on and so on)
Congratulations! The last level was very hard indeed. (I have unofficial titles for each level; you can search where these titles could be written... The last level is titled "The Killer" for this reason.)
Unfortunately it is a limitation of the PuzzleScript engine I'm relying on: there is no state saved whatsoever between levels, except for what level (number) you have reached. If I happen to somehow make it standalone, that's definitely a high-priority feature, but for the time being you must rely on storing your progress yourself.
As for going directly to any level, there is yet another secret I've implemented (skipping levels); try to figure out how. Technically you can go to any level with it (although awkwardly)...
I gave up on lv.14 as the tangle of scissors hurt my eyes too much. very fun for a P.S. game. Is it possible to get all the red gems while also finishing the levels?
Yes, I noticed that problem in Level 14. I need to either remake the level to something else, or to fix the sprites of scissors.
Yes, it's possible to collect red gems and finish the levels at the same time. This gives essentially three objectives in each level: reach the goal, get the red gem, and get the red gem and reach the goal.
Updated, now with 18 levels (and coincidentally this is also the 18th comment). Technically it's 52 if you count reaching the goal, getting the red gem, and doing both as three separate objectives, but eh.
This is pretty much a finished game (even though I internally still call it v0.9), but I might still tweak some boring (tiresome) levels, tweak the ordering, maybe add some more levels, etc.
Author here, whee.

Great puzzle game and so nice to see level numbers in a puzzle script game!
ReplyDeleteSo now I can tell I'm stuck on level 7 :)

ReplyDeletelevel 12???
ReplyDeletewell POP, i got it -- but not with the red bonus

Thanks for this nice puzzle and thanks for level numbers! Must be the first time I see this in puzzlescript, bravo!
ReplyDeleteby far my favorite puzzlescript game so far, and I like the puzzlescript games

ReplyDeleteHint: Light objects (paper, scissors, gem) can push other light objects. (I made level 9 that tries to highlight this.)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if you were playing this before roughly yesterday, then I have made a newer version (with revised level 9 and 11).

New version with 3 extra levels (total 15), same link.
