There is cake, music and a mysterious present, however the mood changes quickly when an unexpected guest arrives at your party. Cube escape: birthday, the latest point and click game by Rusty Lake.

Not bad. Creepy but interesting. A bit buggy though. I actually had to restart at one point due to a bug, but the second time it worked. Some additional minor bugs as well.

Very good. I underestimated the fly.

What where the bugs, are they obvious? I'm not sure if I am just not doing something correctly and really don't want to look at the walkthrough! For example should I be able to give the knife to my father and light the candles?

@Caroline: In my case, stuff just randomly disappeared from the inventory. I refreshed the game, which, thanks to its auto-save feature, wasn't and issue, and got my items back. I didn't encounter any bugs other than that.

There is a snow globe with a place for a number. Coincidentally, you can get a number from rustl lake hotel by getting all the stars.

@Caroline Higley:
I experienced no bugs at all. I may be late in helping you, but I used the knife to cut the cake... just, not in the usual way. You somehow use the knife to lit the candles. Make sure you give one candle to every piece of cake.

I found 2 bugs:

(1) It is possible to click on both the letter and the postcard before they have been dropped on the floor. In fact you can do this right at the start of the game, before they are visible in the room view. You can't see them, but you can click on them and access their views.

(2) The first time I fed the cat, the key did not appear on the floor. I knew something wasn't right, so I restarted the game and when I did it again, the key did appear. That one was obviously quite annoying.

Nice game - not as easy as others for me. I found the drawing on the window kind of tricky...

@Tom
bug (2) happened to me too

I didn't like the fact that it wasn't possible to light the candles with the matches.

I really like the music :)

oh my gosh - the bolt - would have made it without walkthrough if the bolt would have been there with one click less...

I'm not usually inclined to buy escape the room games, but every once in awhile, I am happy to put a few bucks down for a really good one (like The Room or anything Bart makes :). Has anyone bought the Rusty Lake Hotel? I was particularly impressed with this "birthday" installment as it included a few "drag" puzzles in addition to clicking ones and also because of the "tetris-style" puzzle on the poster. It reminded me how I have often hoped for someone to create a combo escape the room/ Hoshi Saga style game where it follows the normal collect and use items format of an escape the room game but many of the puzzles have the "find the star" type of "figure out what you have to do by clicking, dragging, waiting, drawing, etc." type of feel. Anyway, as always, thanks Bart for posting, and if anyone has played the RL Hotel, let me know.

Am I the only who's wondering where that fish came from?
