crimson room [browser oldie]

Crimson room by Toshimitsu Takagi is certainly one of those oldie browser games that was partly responsible for a whole new genre of browser games: the escape the room games. So let's go back to 2004 and that night you drank too much. Remember? Time to escape that crimson colored room! (Note: unfortunately the site of Mr. Takagi is no longer online so when you find the note in the game that tells you to visit the webpage http://www.datacraft.co.jp/takagism/rr/history.html in 2004 you would have found the number '1994' there...)

Nice, but dizzy making navigation and some terrible pixel hunting.

This is the one that got me hooked!!! Did it before MOTAS!

I remember this being good back in the day, but its sequel, The Viridian Room, was quite creepy.

Got the screwdriver, but it disappeared.

Never mind. Found it. :) Fun game!

In case anyone's interested, I've found what I think is a snapshot of the original page where the note directs you. This was the only snapshot on web.archive.org that seemed to have the original content:

This was my first point and click game ever played, and an introduction to Bart Bonte game page. Way back then, it got me hooked and have played them ever since. Thanks Bart.

anonymous 3:48 glad you found the screwdriver but now the same thing happened to me (it disappeared) and I can't seem to find it. any hints?

I tried to open the safe again and this time, the screwdriver ended up in my inventory. to all those perplexed at the disappearing screwdriver - just open the safe again. The only thing I did differently was I unselected the safe key first.

I have played all of his 4 rooms, and I have been sold on that genre for 13 years. Then I scoured the net for anything like it.

Speaking of MOTAS (Mystery of Time and Space), this walk down memory lane made me want to go find the original MOTAS, but the website appears to be down and I can't find any mirrors. Anyone know if there's a way I can still play it?

this classic was the ever first escape the room game I played and kick start my interests in this genre of gaming!

Ah yes, remember it well..."There is no strange thing." Because waking up locked in an unknown room is, like, you know--normal!

@Lytton, I feel the same way about the Sakura games. They're all gone, and though I found a "sakura" site they're someone else's primitive games that don't work.

Hi, I can't figure out what these numbers are for: 1994, and I can't figure out the box, but I do know the ring goes in the box, the cable plugs into the cd player, and I think it's really cool they added a url page to the numbers

I've been trying to solve this escape room for 3 days and I can find anything thing else. So far i've found the battery, small box & I've attached the stick to the box, a silver and gold key and an ordinary key, the power cables CD case paper with a URL on and a ring and the casset tape. I was wondering if you could help me?

Complete walkthrough:

Open and close the curtain until a ring falls out, take it.
Look in the bowl and take the other ring.
Look on the window and take the key.
Look under the pillow and take the key.
Use key on the left drawer and take the power-chord.
Use key on the right drawer and take the mystery box.
Use the power chord on the CD player, turn it on, and open the cd slot, collect the key.
Lift the pillow and click the space between the matress and the head board, to take the metal rod.
Turn right from the bed, then click the bottom left corner of screen, to take the battery.
Look under the dresser and get the cassette.
Examine the mystery box and put the rings and the rod on top.
Open the box and put the cassette and the battery in, then click the lens to start the movie.
Watch the entire movie, and after the movie is over click the spot where the person was pointing.
Wait a moment for the slot to open.
Open the slot and use the code 1994 (the site of Mr. Takagi is no longer online so when you find the note in the game that tells you to visit a webpage, in 2004 you would have found the number '1994' there...)
Then use the key on the slot below the numbers, and get the screwdriver.
Click on the door to get close to it, click the knob with the screwdriver, click the door, escape!
