samorost [browser oldie]

When posting oldie browser games it's of course impossible to not feature this classic point and click adventure from 2003: samorost by Amanita Design. The object of this surreal game is to avert a collision between the home planet of the gnome and a large incoming spaceship.

Thanks for posting about this, Bonte! Everything by the Amanita folks is fantastic, IMHO. Botanicula (which you have to pay for) remains my favorite by far, but the Samorost browser games are similarly imaginative, visually sumptuous, and accompanied by soundtracks that merit listening on their own.

  5. Thanks, Bart, for sharing one of my long-time favorite games! Anyone who enjoys this game should consider getting Samorost 2 & Samorost 3 from Amanita Design. They are a fantastic company that makes wonderful games!

  6. My favorite game from them is The Quest for the Rest, because I love the Polyphonic Spree.

  7. Thanks for sharing Bart.
Many of us have already played these old games but I hope that younger people can discover how good they are.

  10. I'm honestly not that fond of these particular games. But the graphics make them well worth playing through a few times, just for the sake of seeing details that might have been missed the first time.

  12. You can also play chapter 1 of samorost 2 for free.
Just change the 1 to a 2 in the address bar.

  13. I love Samorost. It was the game that got me into pointandclick games. My first ever. I hope you can find another, short game in that style whose name I can't remember, you got in and out of a Buddhist temple. I wish, oh I wish I could remember the name. It was Chinese, and if I'm not mistaken it meant "heart"---but I'm probably wrong. You had to find your way across a river to an island...the name was one word.

  15. I remember now!! It was called "Gwen" and billed as "the Chinese Samorost."
Oh I wish I could find it somewhere online...hope someone here can.
