Connect the cables to the power supply to wire power into the modules and find out how to solve each level of the puzzle game Wirez by Ian Williams.

  1. Is there some logic I'm supposed to use on this? It seems a bit more like trial and error until it lights up correctly.

  2. The power supply in the top right corner outputs a value of 1. You then route this value through the different modules to complete the puzzles. Pay attention to the ports labeled output (o) and input (i). I tried to teach this with the first couple of levels, but it was challenging to design the levels properly... Even so, trial and error is encouraged!

  6. Lots of people have been having trouble with level 7. The solution is to get the numbers to read 1, 2, 3, 4. To do that you need to break out the original output into 4 1's so that you can add 1 and 1 to get 2, then add another 1 to the 2 to get 3, then last 1 goes directly into the top. Look at the different modules closely and you'll notice that one has a single input with two outputs and the other has two inputs with one output, use these to get the correct numbers!

  7. At one point, I had stressed all the wires so much they burst onto "Mike & Ikes". Too Funny :) Really enjoyed figuring out the rules, and appreciated that I was allowed to work with the wire while they were "hot".

  9. Allison, there is no crossing on level 2, connect in sequence but it's about what you need to do with the button to reach the 'max'

  13. Liz, the screen in the middle is telling you what number you need to input. Use the sliders to get the correct value. I've noticed that the cable can get in the way and obscure the numbers sometimes, so you might want to move them to double check what the math problem is saying.

  15. This was really fun. Generally, I was able to intuit some theoretical rules using a couple of test wires, and then if my solution based on those rules was wrong, the output helped me determine what the real rules were. Some of them, like the last one, I understood right away. As usual for a good game jam entry, I was sad to see it end so quickly.

    The addition one took me several tries. On the first try, I figured out how the splitters and mergers affected the signal values, and then on my second try I matched the displayed values and had to figure out what the actual goal values were.

    I kept backing out to the menu to reset the wires so I could start over. So if you could only add one small feature, I think a reset button (or one to release all the connections) would be incredibly helpful. Plus, it would be satisfying to watch all the wires fall down.

      I agree with you on the need for a more elegant reset. It's a feature I will add if I ever release a "directors cut".

  16. Thanks, iwilliams. There was a bug with the browser I was using, the screen didn't show a number! I finally got it randomly.

    I loved this game. Although didn't always love the fact that a part of the puzzle was wrestling with wires.

    7 was the toughest for me. Key here is you need to create the sequence 1234. You need to use the blocks that add and the blocks that replicate to be able to do it. One hint is don't try to just go left to right. You need to jump around a bit. Also, making the 1 is pretty easy. Try getting that one quick and then use the rest of the circuit to create the 3. Hope that helps a bit.

  20. ones that have 2 nodes feeding into one add those two nodes together. So if you feed in a 1 on both sides you get 2 coming out. The replicate just duplicates the input. Those are the ones that have one node followed by 2. So if you put in 1. You get a 1 coming out at the other two. You need to feed the initial source through these in such a way so that in the end you get a 3 and 1.

  21. For more info you essentially need to do the following: take the input 1 and replicate it. Then take one of those replicated 1's and replicate it again. Then take one of those replicated 1's and replicate it once more. You'll then have four 1's. Take those 4 1's and send one to the input for the 1 in 1234. Then take 2 of the other 1's and add them to get 2. Then take that 2 and add it to the remaining 1 and send the resulting 3 to the to input for 3 in 1234.

    Be aware you get a lot of criss crossing wires as a result of all this so wire placement is really important here.

    Keep at it. Shuffle the wires around, keeping in mind the logical rules you've learnt in the previous levels. It took me a good while to solve it too. I even had to change what splitter/replicator I used at the start much later.

  25. For level 8:
    * See which inputs on the right board trigger what symbol.
    * What is the relation between the output used on the left board and the position of the symbol on the right board?
    * Trigger the top and middle inputs at the same time. What symbol appears? Then find a way to trigger both inputs for the target spot, while allowing only one of the inputs of the right board to be triggered for their respective spots. What do you need to use?
    * I ended up draping a wire over the display.
    * The pictures of the levels at the right side of the page when you scroll down the game are hints. Use the wiring layout in the hints as a starting point if you're having trouble.
