shift shape [browser]
Move around and shapeshift to collect all 10 coins in the puzzle platformer Shift Shape by Joszs.
Very interesting mechanic, that was a fun little playthrough. There's not like a finish to the level is there, you just collect the 10 coins and that's it?
Thanks, yes the goal is just to collect the 10 coins for now. This game is a submission for the first round of the GDKO 2025 a multi-round game jam. I plan on expanding this idea in the next round. The goal of this round was to create a main and secondary mechanic, this is just a quick showcase of these two mechanics.
Hi, thanks for playing, what did you find frustrating? I think I will remove the jump and make the movement grid based to avoid some of the frustration. Let me know if there is anything else you found frustrating ๐
Hi, this was just a quick showcase of two mechanics for the GDKO 2025 a multi-round game jam. I will expand further on this game in the next round - next month.
If you have any specific ideas or some inspiration to share to create some payoff let me know. ๐
It is true that the jumping is a bit misleading. And first it confused me that if I move the face while standing on a flat area, the whole body moves with it, but I got used to it, because there is always a comfortable, accurate way to get to my targeted area. Nice game, looking forward to see new levels!
I REALLY liked the unique game-play mechanic. There were a couple of places I had to try a few times to figure out, but it was never too frustrating. I hope you continue to develop this! And I definitely look forward to the dopamine rush of a win screen. :)
Hi Joszs, maybe you can implement face movement separate from the body movement by assigning different keys. But I'm not sure if it would be less frustrating or not.
It's a cute game and once I figured out the subtleties with the face versus 1/2/3 movement, it went quickly. The only frustration was the lack of an ending. I found all 10 and expected a "done" or a boss to come along.
Like the mechanic, as the author said, just a proof of concept at the moment. Didn't read the instructions at first so was trying to jump or move precisely, but when you realise everything is deterministic it becomes a lot more fun (though still frustrating enough when you press the wrong shape).
If you are you looking for a solution or a walkthrough for one of the game links, please have a look in the comments.

Grid-based movement would be good, that was the most frustrating part for me.

I got 10 coins & have to say that the spacing is too tight.
There were lots of places I got mad because I was 1 pixel misaligned.

So annoying trying to get my blocks to exactly line up. Grid based movement is a must.
